How do I create a Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR) software router virtual machine?

Question:

How do I create a Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR) software router virtual machine?

Answer:

IBM offers the Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR) 1000V software router virtual machine as a convenience to our customers.

Note: You must obtain a license from Cisco; visit the Cisco Cloud Services Router page for information regarding the purchase of licensing and support.

Visit Cisco CSR 1000V Series Cloud Services Router Software Configuration Guide for information regarding the configuration of the software router.

Note: Only two processor configurations are supported by the Cisco CSR 1000V with minimum memory requirements as shown. Use of unsupported configurations may cause virtual machine failure when starting.

  • 1 CPU and 2.5 GB memory (low footprint option)
  • 4 CPU and 4 GB memory (standard configuration)

Note: In instance-based compute pools the minimum configuration for a low footprint CSR of 1 processor and 2.5 GB is not available. Use the configuration with 1 processor and 4 GB memory.

Template

You may create a Cisco CSR software router from the Cisco CSR 1000v Appliance template in the same manner that you Create a Virtual Machine from a Template.

VM Catalog

You may create a Cisco CSR software router through your VM Catalog.

  1. Click CiscoCSRISOtmplv7-2.zip to download the archive. The MD5sum has for the archive is 935f6e80f68b414c8e0d029be2a78db7 if you wish to verify. The archive contains three files:
    • CiscoCSRISOtmplv7-2.mf – Text file containing the SHA1 message digests of the OVF and VMDK files.
    • CiscoCSRISOtmplv7-2.ovf – Open Virtualization Format (OVF) descriptor file for the Cisco CSR software router.
    • CiscoCSRISOtmplv7-2.disk1.vmdk – Virtual Machine Disk (VMDK) file for the Cisco CSR software router.
  2. Unzip the archive file to a device with access to Infinicenter Console.
  3. Verify the authenticity of the OVF and VMDK files using the message digests in the MF file, if desired.
  4. Upload the virtual machine to your VM Catalog as a catalog item; requires only the OVF and VMDK files.
  5. Create a Cisco CSR software router from that VM Catalog item.
