Can I replace IBM software licenses with my own?

Question:

Can I replace IBM software licenses with my own?

Customers may wish to replace the installed software license with a pre-purchased license of their own to avoid paying the metered license fee on virtual machines built from a Enterprise Cloud template.

Answer:

Generally, no. All customers are required to obtain their Microsoft® Windows or Red Hat licenses from IBM if those licenses are running on our multi-tenant platform. This is not a requirement of IBM. Operating system vendors such as Microsoft and Red Hat requires this of all their hosting and cloud partners.

If you are running applications that are part of the Microsoft Mobility program, you have registered those products with Microsoft, and you can provide proof of that registration, IBM can potentially stop future billing after consultation with Microsoft.
