Why do I receive the error: Unable to connect to authd on host x.x.x.x?

Issue:

I receive the error: Unable to connect to authd on host x.x.x.x when I try to Connect to a virtual machine?

After establishing a VPN connection, selecting a server from the environment, and clicking Connect in Infinicenter Console, the VMware Remote Console (VMRC) browser plugin attempts to install, but the following error is returned:

Unable to connect to authd on host x.x.x.x

where x.x.x.x is a specific IP address.

Cause:

One or both of the two required ports, 902 and 903, for the host to communicate with the virtual machine via the VMRC browser plugin are being blocked.

Workaround:

This applies to all versions of Windows.

Verify whether the host PC can connect on ports 902 and 903 to the IP address in the error message.

Note: In the following commands, x.x.x.x represents the IP address in the error message.

  1. Open a command prompt.
  2. Type the following:
  3. telnet x.x.x.x 902

    telnet x.x.x.x 903

If either fails, try the following:

  1. Open a command prompt.
  2. Type the following:
  3. netsh firewall add portopening tcp 902 required enable subnet

netsh firewall add portopening tcp 903 required enable subnet

  4. Test connecting to the console again using Connect.
  5. If it fails, contact your network administrator to verify that the network firewall is not blocking these two ports.
  6. If they are both verified to be open through the network, contact Global Support Services.
